Town and Züri (Smash Monthly)
Town & Züri – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament Series
Town & Züri is a recurring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament series in Zurich, jointly organized by Town & Züri is jointly organized by GECo, March Marmots and Smash Bros Zürich (SBZ).
The series connects the university community with the broader Swiss Smash scene and provides a structured, competitive yet welcoming environment for players of all skill levels.
Venue
The tournaments take place at the ETH Alumni Pavillon, 8001 Zürich, located at the ETH Zurich Zentrum campus near the Polyterrasse.
The venue is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport:
• Tram 6 or 10 to “ETH/Universitätsspital”
• Polybahn from “Central” to “Polyterrasse”
• Approximately 5 minutes walking distance from the ETH main building (HG)
Tournament Schedule
Typical schedule per iteration:
Venue Open: 13:00
Tournament Start: 14:00
Estimated End: 19:30
All participants are expected to be ready at the official start time.
If a player is not present within 10 minutes after their match is called, they may be disqualified.
Tournament Format
Town & Züri is run as a double elimination tournament:
• All players begin in the Winners Bracket
• After one loss, players continue in the Losers Bracket
• A second loss results in elimination
The tournament follows the official Swiss Smash Ruleset (Dutch Ruleset).
Entry Fees and Prize Pool
Entry fees:
CHF 10 for students
CHF 15 for external participants
From each registered player, CHF 5 is allocated directly to the prize pool.
The total prize pool is distributed among the top three placements.
Detailed prize distribution is published per iteration.
On-Site Amenities
During each event, a small kiosk is available on site offering drinks and food, including items such as:
• French fries
• Hot dogs
• Possibly more in the future
Equipment
Participants are encouraged to bring their own:
• Nintendo Switch console
• Controller
Contributing setups helps ensure smooth tournament execution.
Code of Conduct
All participants are expected to behave respectfully and professionally.
Unsportsmanlike behavior, harassment, or unfair competitive practices (including mid-set coaching) may result in disqualification or exclusion from the event.
